Steph “Stevie” Richards is a composer and trumpeter whose boundary-crossing work spans creative jazz, experimental music, and interdisciplinary performance. The New York Times calls her work “boldly inventive,” while DownBeat describes her as an “innately adventurous trumpeter…forging a distinctive path through jazz and experimental music.” A prolific collaborator, Richards has performed and recorded with artists including Henry Threadgill, Anthony Braxton, John Zorn, Yoko Ono, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, and St. Vincent, as well as ensembles including the Kronos Quartet, Bang on a Can’s Asphalt Orchestra, and International Contemporary Ensemble. Featured on more than 70 recordings, she has released six albums as a leader, including the acclaimed Supersense and Power Vibe (Northern Spy, 2024). Richards is Professor of Music at the University of Washington and a Yamaha Artist.
