Project Week is HASOM’s semesterly week-long program dedicated to exploration, collaboration, and creative growth. Taking place from Monday, March 9 through Friday, March 13, Project Week replaces the regular School of Music schedule with a wide range of workshops, performances, lessons, and events led by faculty and visiting artists. This immersive week invites students to step outside their usual routines, engage with new ideas, and connect with the broader HASOM community.

Huang Ruo, the 2024 Herb Alpert Award winner in Music, is a Chinese-born composer known for a distinctive style he calls “Dimensionalism,” integrating Chinese traditional music with Western avant-garde, experimental, and popular influences. His wide-ranging works include orchestral music, opera, installations, and film, performed by major ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic and premieres at leading opera houses including Santa Fe Opera and the Met Opera. Born in Hainan in 1976 and educated at the Shanghai Conservatory, Oberlin, and Juilliard, he is now a composition faculty member at Mannes School of Music and artistic director of Ensemble FIRE.
