About the Artist
Rob Minkoff is a director best known for his work on The Lion King (1994), Stuart Little (1999), The Haunted Mansion (2003), The Forbidden Kingdom (2008), and Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014). After attending the CalArts Character Animation program, Minkoff was hired by Walt Disney Feature Animation as an in-between artist for The Black Cauldron (1985). He then became a supervising animator on The Great Mouse Detective (1986), followed by designing characters for The Brave Little Toaster (1987). He co-wrote the song “Good Company” for Oliver & Company (1988), before becoming a character designer and animator for The Little Mermaid (1989). He made his directorial debut with two Roger Rabbit shorts, Tummy Trouble (1989) and Roller Coaster Rabbit (1990). His first foray into live-action was Mickey’s Audition (1992), which was shown on the Studio Backlot Tour at Disney’s Hollywood Studios—then Disney-MGM Studios Park—starring Mel Brooks, Angela Lansbury, and a host of well-known Hollywood personalities. He also directed Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (2022), an animated re-imagining of Mel Brooks’ seminal comedy Blazing Saddles (1974).
