Born and raised in Boyle Heights, Chris Zepeda-Millán teaches in Public Policy and Chicana/o Studies at UCLA, where his research focuses on social movements, Latina/o politics, immigration policy, and public opinion. He serves concurrently as Chair of the Labor Studies Program and Faculty Director of the UCLA Strategic Research Lab. Zepeda-Millán’s books include Walls, Cages, and Family Separation: Immigration Policy in the Time of Trump (Cambridge University Press 2020), and the award-winning Latino Mass Mobilization: Immigration, Racialization, and Activism (Cambridge University Press 2017). His presentation will explore solidarity practices and challenges in the lead up to the 2006 immigrant rights protests, when millions mobilized against harsh immigration policy, and how we can build on that work today.
