Experimental Animation Visiting Artists series presents Heesoo Kwon!

Heesoo Kwon is a multimedia artist whose practice brings together ritual, autobiography, archival research, Korean mythology, and digital technologies. Drawing from her personal life, familial relationships, and matrilineal histories, she explores the rewriting of patriarchal narratives and the creation of alternative forms of memory and belonging.

In 2017, Kwon initiated Leymusoom, an autobiographical feminist religion whose name derives from the Korean word museongbyeol (무성별), meaning “agender.” Through the evolving Leymusoom Universe, she combines avatars, ancestral memories, mythology, and imagined environments to construct nonlinear worlds that rethink family, gender, religion, and collective histories.
