Raised in Los Angeles, Katisse was shaped by an eclectic range of early influences spanning Miles Davis and Bach to Run DMC and AC/DC. He honed his craft at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, The Grove School of Music under Rob McConnell, and through extensive study with woodwind master Bill Green. Over his prolific career, Katisse has performed or recorded with an incredible array of top artists across genres, including Prince, Dr. Dre (including The Chronic), Herbie Hancock, Laufey, Yellowjackets, Parliament-Funkadelic, and Snoop Dogg.
His virtuosic playing is featured prominently in film and television, most notably performing and improvising the iconic “Jazz Flute” scene in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, as well as contributing to major productions like La La Land, Minions, Crazy Rich Asians, and Palm Royale. Beyond his performing credits, Katisse is a dedicated educator who has led clinics and masterclasses at institutions worldwide—including CalArts, USC, and UCLA—and created the comprehensive instructional video guide Flute Tips for Sax Players.
