CalArts offers direct access to a global creative hub.
Ideas soar above the palm tree-dotted skyline in Los Angeles, where seemingly every corner of its prismatic arts scene bears the fingerprints of generations of CalArtians. Our Valencia campus’ proximity and connection to LA’s creative industries allows our students to keep a finger on its pulse—and to leave their own mark on the City of Angels.
From class field trips to performing on stages across the city, CalArtians enjoy numerous opportunities to weave themselves into the tapestry of the city’s creative industries. Students are encouraged to leverage their connection to LA, where they may avail themselves of:
- World-class art museums and galleries
- The epicenter of the entertainment industry, studded with studios both world renowned and emerging for live-action film and animation
- Cutting-edge performance venues for dance, theater, and other contemporary works
- An electrifying music scene and recording studios
- An expansive literary and research landscape, with bookshops, workshops, and symposia aplenty
“During my fourth year, I took a class that met for six hours every Friday,” recalls Anais Franco (Art BFA 19). “We would go into Los Angeles and look at contemporary art exhibitions. Michael Ned Holte, the professor for the class, is well-versed in the art community and allowed us to converse with curators and directors of art space.”
