About:

The world has been falling apart in different, notable ways since most of the people in this ensemble were born. In the midst of the collapsing spiral, however, the dominant emotional outlet appears to be numbness. In these times of heightened intensity, rage and whimsy feed from the same trough that begs for us simply to feel anything. “Collapse” features multiple pieces by CalArts affiliated composers focused on the dual crisis of climate change and AI. Metal music and playful vocal improvisation pieces create a thriving emotional garden as we reach for signs of agency in a smothering system while canonized composers bring their gravity to bear. The concert is fully staged and will be presented without pause for maximum impact. Featuring pieces by Queen, Mozart, John Cage, Neil Young, Jason Robert Brown, Thomas Morley, Pussy Riot, Rage Against The Machine, and CalArts folks Jules Evens, Abigail Whitman, Jeffrey Cobbold, Tanner Pfeiffer, and Andrée Belle Conley.
