Stafford Loans

Federal Direct Subsidized Loans for Undergraduate Students

A Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford  Loan is a need-based loan available to undergraduate students to assist with educational costs. These loans are funded and insured by the federal government. The federal government pays the interest on the Subsidized loans while you are enrolled full-time and repayment is deferred until after graduation or when you cease to enroll in school at least half-time.  The interest rate is 6.8% fixed.

You can use the interactive Loan Repayment Calculator to help estimate your monthly loan payments when you leave school.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan

The Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan is available to undergraduate and graduate students.  These loans are funded and insured by the federal government. Unlike the Federal Direct Subsidized Stafford Student Loan, interest accrues ion the Unsubsidized Loan and is added to the principal of the loan.  Interest only payments can be made while you are enrolled in school. The interest rate is 6.8% fixed. Amounts vary by grade level; please the chart see below.
