Lunch hour in the newly remodeled CalArts café, now named 'Steve's Café' after former President Steven D. Lavine

During the summer of 2015, CalArts undertook a construction project that completely transformed CalArts’ main food service and dining areas.

Steve's Café now provides students, faculty and staff with a wider variety of food options and a greater range of seating options, from intimate spaces to group tables—all intended to make the cafe a hub for the entire campus. Working with architectural firm Why Design and CalArts' food service provider, Bon Appétit, the end result is a modern and flexible design providing a reimagined space in which faculty, staff and students meet, eat and collaborate.

CalArts provides a dining service program for all students, faculty, staff and guests through Bon Appétit, an industry trendsetter that has won many awards for its nontraditional approach to food service. Food is prepared fresh daily using only the finest ingredients and the menu features a selection of hot entrees, vegetarian and vegan meals, a full salad bar, drinks and snacks. Recognizing the cultural diversity of the community, the Café offers a wide range of menu choices.

The menu is updated on a weekly basis during the school year by the Bon Appétit Management Company.

Tatum Lounge

Tatum Lounge is an informal gathering place and coffee house, featuring a daytime coffee bar—with snacks and pastries—staffed by students. Students can lounge on sofas and chat with friends, listen to the baristas' playlists, hear a live reading or view an art exhibition.
