CAP Animation Programs

High School

CAP/Inner-City Arts High School Animation Program

This class provides instruction in stop motion, claymation, sand, paint-on-glass, charcoal, and cut-out puppetry. Participants also learn zoetropes, flip books, and hand-drawn animation. The first semester of this yearlong program is devoted to an exploration of the various animation techniques and exercises as stated above. The students' animated shorts and collaborative films are screened at various venues.

Middle School

CAP/Banning's Landing Community Center Sony Pictures Media Arts Program (SPMAP)

This 30-week media arts program, held after-school twice a week, is for middle school students (ages 10 to 14). The class covers drawing, painting, animation and media arts. Students learn drawing and painting techniques, and how to draw from a model, animate, put together an art portfolio and create artwork on computers. The program culminates in a public exhibition and screening of the artwork produced by the students. This program is part of the Sony Pictures Media Arts Program, a partnership between the CalArts Community Arts Partnership, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

  • Dates: Oct. 7–Dec. 11, 2013 and Jan. 13–June 11, 2014 (No Class Oct. 14, Nov. 11, Nov. 27, Jan. 20, Feb. 17, Mar. 24, Mar. 26, May 5 & May 26)

CAP/Center for the Arts Eagle Rock Sony Pictures Media Arts Program (SPMAP)
