CalArts Alumna Named Executive Director of Public Affairs
Wendy Shattuck to Lead Public Affairs at CalArts
The search to fill the position of Executive Director of Public Affairs is successfully concluded with the appointment of Wendy E. Shattuck. Ms. Shattuck, who attended our School of Theater as an M.F.A. student, is uniquely qualified to lead the diverse public relations activities of the Office of Advancement. Specializing in institutional communications and marketing, her background combines training in the performing arts with business experience gained in higher education, corporate and agency environments. Among other impressive qualifications, she brings to CalArts expertise in recruitment marketing for higher education. She joins the Office of Advancement on August 19, 2009.
As Executive Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Shattuck will play a vital role in shaping integrated communications and marketing strategies for the Office of Advancement--providing oversight for all CalArts marketing, media relations, and government and community relations activities.
Ms. Shattuck comes to CalArts from the University of Idaho, the state’s flagship higher education and research institution, where, since 2006, she served as Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Strategic Communications. She was a key leader in the University’s positive turnaround following a very difficult period -- directing media and public relations, Web and print communications, creative services and brand marketing. She worked closely with two former Presidents of the University and their executive teams on institutional communications strategies, and did the same previously, with the leadership of Reed College in Portland, Oregon. At Art Center College of Design immediately following her time here at CalArts, she supported Development efforts.
In her 20-year career she has also worked on behalf of The Annenberg/CPB Project (now Annenberg Media, which funds and develops multimedia educational resources); an educational publisher; and a global technology consultancy.
Ms. Shattuck holds a Master of Liberal Arts from Stanford University and a B.A. in Theater Arts and Dramatic Literature from Brown University.
