CalArts Community Arts Partnership (CAP)

With classes led by a teaching corps of accomplished CalArts faculty, alumni and student instructors, CAP participants learn to create original works of art and to experiment with prevailing conventions of artistic expression. CAP’s success has served as a model for other arts education organizations locally and nationally.

Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT)

CalArts' downtown center for contemporary arts, REDCAT is a multidisciplinary center for innovative visual, performing, and media arts founded by CalArts in the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex in downtown Los Angeles. Through performances, exhibitions, screenings, and literary events, REDCAT introduces diverse audiences, students, and artists to the most influential developments in the arts from around the world, and gives artists in this region the creative support they need to achieve national and international stature.

The Center for New Performance (CNP)

The Center for New Performance (CNP) is the professional producing arm of CalArts, established to provide a unique artist- and project-driven framework for the development and realization of original theater, music, dance, media, and interdisciplinary projects.

Additional ways that you can support students in the School of Art:

  • Charles Gaines Fellowship for MFA Art Students - This fellowship is awarded to MFA Art students with financial need, with primary preference given to students who self-identify as Black or being from the African diaspora.
     

  • East of Borneo - Launched in 2010, East of Borneo is an online magazine of contemporary art and its history as considered from Los Angeles.
     

  • Lorraine Wild Scholarship in Graphic Design - A scholarship created to honor the legacy, practice, and commitment to the field of Design by faculty member Lorraine Wild.

Additional ways that you can support students in the School of Critical Studies:

  • Katie Jacobson Writer in Residence - The Katie Jacobson Writer in Residence Program—a new feature of the MFA Creative Writing Program—is designed to bring a prestigious writer to campus for a public reading and a classroom visit, and to meet with students one-to-one. Learn more
     

  • Postgraduate Teaching Fellowships - Each year, the School offers two Postgraduate Teaching Fellowships to recent graduates of the MFA Creative Writing and MA Aesthetics and Politics programs. The Fellowships provide valuable professional development and teaching experience.
     

  • The Next Words Thesis Prize - A stipend offered to support students in the MFA Creative Writing program.
     

  • Theorist in Residence - This program brings prestigious, diverse scholars who focus on media or urban or global studies to CalArts for a one- or two-week residency to teach workshops, give public lectures, and reinforce CalArts’ mission as a multidisciplinary community of artists.

  • Showcase - The School of Film/Video presents a selection of special screenings that feature new short and feature-length films by students in its four programs–a culmination of hard work and dedication throughout the year.
     

  • Allan Sekula Social Documentary Fund - Honoring the memory of an influential CalArts faculty member, this fund provides grants for students working in the social documentary genre.

  • Charlie Haden Jazz Scholarship - In honor of the legendary jazz innovator and founder of the Institute’s Jazz Studies Program, this endowed scholarship enables committed and talented jazz musicians to pursue their creative and career goals with essential tuition support.
     

  • Jory Prum Scholarship for Sounds That Redefine Normal - Established in honor of Jory Prum's (InterSchool; Film/Video BFA 97) enormous impact as a sound designer and audio engineer, particularly in the film and video game industries, this endowment provides scholarship support to deserving students with financial need concentrating in music technology and experimental sound practices.
