CalArts is pleased to announce the official dedication and celebration of the new music stage, The Wild Beast, and the venue's outdoor amphitheater, The S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard. Please join us for an evening of scintillating live music as part of the CalArts World Music and Dance Festival 2010.
Headlining the program will be the World Percussion Ensemble, led by Randy Gloss and Houman Pourmehdi. Joining the ensemble will be special guest artist Abbos Kosimov, internationally renowned percussionist from Uzbekistan. A master of the dorya (frame drum), Kosimov has performed and recorded with Stevie Wonder, the Hands On'Semble, Zakir Hussain, and many other distinguished artists. Together, the CalArts World Percussion Ensemble and Kosimov promise a dazzling display of virtuosity that draws on music traditions spanning the globe.
The second half of the program brings musical riches from CalArts’ ever-popular Latin Jazz Ensemble, led by pianist-composer David Roitstein, chair of the world-famous Jazz Program.
CalArts welcomes you to this historic performance, peppered with special world music surprises, as we dance the night away under California stars.
Enjoy this celebration in The Wild Beast’s open-air music pavilion configuration with both fixed and lawn seating in The S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard. Bring blankets and put together a stylish picnic!
