Eileen Anastasia Reynolds is an American artist and experimental animator whose studio practice involves painting, photography, performance, and animation. She often rotates from being actively outside working in the public sphere to spending months hibernating in the studio. Her recent public projects involve directing and choreographing site-specific animated performances, within various communities in Malaysia, Singapore, Bangladesh, and New Mexico. Her interest in public projects grew when she was a director of photography for Millennium Park’s Crown Fountains in Chicago.
When not in the public arena, Reynolds reverts to painting, drawing, sculpture, and animation. Her animations utilize stop motion techniques including pixilation, clay animation, and back-lit clay on glass. A recent piece, BIG BIO, is part one of a trilogy, which introduces the Biotechnological Madonna and Child and explores real and imagined reproductive technologies. Thematically, this trilogy investigates bioethics, modern day motherhood, and psychological power struggles within the human condition. BIG BIO was sponsored and supported by grants from The Hong Leong Foundation, The Substation Gallery, and The Embassy of the United States. Produced in Singapore.
Reynolds is a recipient of a variety of grants including two research grants from the Nanyang Technological University, the Paul Blankenship Memorial Grant for Emerging Artists, and an artist grant from the Embassy of the United States, Singapore. Exhibitions include the University of Malaysia Museum and Gallery, Post-Museum in Singapore, SITE: Santa Fe- Eighth International Biennale, “The Dissolve”, “One Night Stand”, Currents International New Media Festival, ISEA2012: Albuquerque: Machine Wilderness, Albuquerque Art Museum. Festivals include San Francisco Int’l Film Festival; Trickfilm International Film Festival, Stuttgart; Slamdance International Film Festival, Utah; Marfa International Film Festival, Marfa; Women in the Director’s Chair, Chicago; Lyon Asian Film Festival, France among others.
