The COVID-19 Compliance Taskforce shared this message with the CalArts community, notifying them of a positive COVID-19 case at REDCAT in downtown Los Angeles.
Dear CalArtians,
We are writing to share with you that a performer at REDCAT has tested positive for COVID-19. Our thoughts and wishes for a swift recovery are with this individual.
We received this information Thursday, Nov. 19 from the affected individual. As required by law and to protect patient privacy, we cannot share any information that would identify this individual.
The affected individual was last at REDCAT on Nov. 18. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will notify those individuals determined to be in direct contact with the affected individual of their possible exposure and recommended care management. The physical areas of REDCAT through which the individual passed were part of our regular cleaning regimen and will undergo additional cleaning.
The affected individual has not been on the Valencia campus.
Please be aware that transmission is thought to occur commonly via sustained face-to-face contact and through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Transmission via surfaces is believed to be less common.
This situation underscores the need for all of us to physically distance, even when we show no signs of the virus. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough, and shortness of breath. According to the CDC, symptoms can appear anywhere from two days to two weeks after exposure. Dec. 2 marks the end of the 14-day period from the point of potential exposure related to this case.
We urge you to continue to carefully self-monitor for symptoms, including for any sign of fever, cough, or respiratory sickness every day before coming into contact with others.
