March 19: International Student Newsletter - Online Classes Begin Monday, March 23

The following message was distributed to CalArts International Students from the Office of International Students and Programs

Online Classes Begin Monday, March 23

CalArts announced that remote learning is extended through the spring 2020 semester.  What this means to F-1 visa status:

  • You can continue your courses online from anywhere in the world and keep your F-1 status, which means you can count the spring 2020 semester towards your eligibility for CPT/OPT, etc.
  • We recommend you to continue the courses online instead of withdrawing from the courses or getting incomplete grades so that you can maintain your F-1 status.
  • Please fill out a modified address form for international students by March 27 for your SEVIS status.
  • You can travel internationally during the spring semester and summer as an F-1 student.  Please check the current travel ban and restrictions.
  • If your F-1 visa in your passport is expired you will need to renew it outside of the U.S. if you travel. Please watch out for consular service suspensions.
  • Travel signature on your I-20 is good for one year.  If you need a new one please email us so we can ship a new I-20 to you.
  • Please watch out for new announcements at NAFSA website. Many requests have been made to DHS related to
    • OPT application, unemployment
    • I-20 and travel signatures, etc.
