Spell/ing: art as spellcasting, language as becoming opens this Saturday, May 20 at The Reef Los Angeles. This group gallery show explores art as spellcasting and language as becoming, it looks into how we can re-mystify the world, after our disenchantment. Some of the provocations around this show are: what are the magic tricks of the present moment? How can a secret be secreted in a way that enlivens, heals, breaks the curse of the modern world? Works include experimental text video, poetry, performance with different machines, disappearing texts, sculptures that swallow text, among other mediums. If you are unable to attend the opening on May 20 or the closing on June 17, visits are available by appointment in between those dates at this link. This show was organized by REEF Artists-in-Residence Irene Gil-Ramon and Julia Sáenz-Lorduy.
