MFA art students from the renowned California Institute of the Arts, located in Valencia, California, will open their studios to the general public on April 23, 2017 from 1 pm to 6 pm. The MFA Open Studio will feature exhibited works, performances, and workshops with MFA students from the programs of Art, Art & Technology, Photography & Media, and Graphic Design, who will share insights into their work and current art practices.
CalArts has set the pace for educating professional artists since 1970. Many graduates from its MFA art program, such as Mark Bradford, Catherine Opie, and Mike Kelley, have gone on to world-wide success.
During the MFA Open Studio event, CalArts’ on-campus movie theatre, the Bijou, will screen film and video work by MFA art students who incorporate film into their art.
Performance art will also be presented in the John Baldessari Studio Classroom. Food and drinks will be provided. Campus maps with directions to the various events will also be available on the day of the event.
