As you explore your housing options, consider on-campus housing, which provides greater exposure to the CalArts community and the Santa Clarita Valley, as well as the opportunity to hone vital social skills.
CalArts offers on-campus housing in two separate units: Chouinard Hall for undergraduate students and Ahmanson Hall for graduate students. CalArts will accommodate as many students who need on-campus housing as possible. The Housing Office's priority is to facilitate a smooth transition for incoming students new to the Institute, and to offer returning students a reliable and comfortable homebase. All registered students are eligible to apply for on-campus housing.
Chouinard Hall houses approximately 340 students through double occupancy rooms with bathrooms shared between two or three rooms. Ahmanson Hall provides apartment-style housing for 99 students in 17 suites. Each suite has either five or six bedrooms—each assigned to a single student—with a shared living room, kitchen and bathroom.
Beginning in the Fall 2013, CalArts will also have a third housing option: Campus Adjacent Housing at Woodglen Apartments (located directly across Tournament Road from campus). This new option is available year to all year levels with a dozen units available (both one- and two-bedroom apartments). Housing Office resident assistants will live in the complex to assist students. This housing option is being treated similarly to the Chouinard and Ahmanson housing options, with amenities including: Fully furnished apartments; no credit check or co-signing; no first and last-month’s rent; a low-housing deposit, nine-month housing agreement; and paid utilities (trash, water, basic cable TV and Internet). Student renters will only responsible for electric and gas bills.
