CalArts Coursera Class Offerings

Developing the creativity of individual students is vital to success in today's world and key to the CalArts education. Beginning in October 2013, students around the world will have the opportunity to experience CalArts’ acclaimed blend of professional excellence in the arts and innovative vision through free online classes.

CalArts has partnered with Coursera, the premiere innovator in the field of online education, to develop three "massive open online courses" (aka MOOCs) for large-scale and open access particpation via the web. Through this new partnership, CalArts can now offer students far beyond its Valencia, Calif., campus, the ability to hone and develop their creative skills.

Joining an international roster of more than two dozen top-flight universities, CalArts is now offering: Introduction to Programming for Digital Artists, Site Specific Creation/Production for Performance, and Live!: A History of Art for Artists, Animators and Gamers (which will begin in February 2014).

Approximately 30,000 students have registered for Introduction to Programming for Digital Artists, and nearly 9,000 have signed up for Site Specific Creation/Production for Performance. Though both classes have already begun, it's not too late to register and join in the learning.
