LA CONVENTA: the next day there is more/less grief is a meditation on feminine vulnerability, grief, and joy as a gallery show and evening of performance. The gallery show features sculpture, clay, painting, textile, photography, and film. The performance program will feature musical performances and readings, including the premiere of the song cycle RESTA/ora, based on the text of La Respuesta (The Answer) by Hieronymite nun, writer, and composer Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz (Mexico, 1651-1695). The project explores how gender identity, gender-based and intergenerational violence, and communities of care impact a creative process. How do we make vulnerability, grief, and joy seen, heard, and felt?

Organized by 2023 REEF Artist-in-Residence Rosa Evangelina (Beltrán), Music & Critical Studies, ‘22. Featuring work by Collin Bailey Jonkman, courtney bianca coles, Emilia Moscoso Borja, Jamiah Lincoln, Jennie E. Park, Mahedi Anjuman, malavika rao, Nikki Ochoa, Nora Fox, Rosa Evangelina, Shaharoh, and Yenju Chen.
