This weekend, Santa Clarita Valley's Mission Opera presents the west coast premiere of Girondines, a new opera based on true stories of six French Revolution women's timeless tragedies and triumphs. The opera features a libretto by Kirsten C. Kunkle and music by CalArts staff member Sarah Melnick (née Van Sciver) '16. Performances take place at 3 pm and 7:30 pm each day on Saturday Oct. 28 and on Sunday October 29. Accompanied by piano, cello, violin, and harp, Girondines is sung in English, and this production will feature supertitles in English, French, and Spanish. Girondines is an arts-as-activism multidisciplinary production incorporating music, art, dance, film, theater, literature, and history elements. The production team includes CalArts Dance alumna Maiko Okajima as well as several CalArts Music alumni: Leila Bishop, Constanze Bonelli, Erik Mondrian, and Juan Antonio Rivera. CalArtians can get $5 tickets! Use the code in the poster below when purchasing tickets on Eventbrite.
