The Wild Beast

DADA DIN DIN is a new opera inspired by the women artists of the Dada movement. An immersive and interactive experience, DADA DIN DIN invites audiences to a Dada soirée with an open bar and intimate staging. Devised by 19 collaborators, DADA DIN DIN highlights the voice (both acoustic and electronic) through original compositions, sonic collages, improvisation, graphic scores, and extended vocal techniques. DADA DIN DIN features selections from Jacqueline Bobak’s Dada Divas (2019) and original pieces by the Opera-Theatre class, which draw from the works of Emmy Hennings, Mina Loy, Baroness Elsa Von Freytag-Loringhoven, Hannah Höch, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Sayako Kishimoto, Florine Stettheimer, and others. DADA DIN DIN makes use of Dada performance practices such as simultaneity, chance techniques, satire, and the fusing of high and lowbrow. The pieces within DADA DIN DIN are an eclectic mix ranging from campy to grim, exploring womanhood, reproductive rights, sexual freedom, anti-capitalism, utopia, memory, war, and ritual. Please note: The Wild Beast will be open. Please bring warm clothes.
