We are providing Vallarta tamales to help gain "tamale vision" on your future. We will have two visiting artists, collaborative partners Kirsten C. Kunkle and Sarah Melnick née Van Sciver (CalArts '16) are excited to connect and with CalArts students and share some of their experiences and guidance centered on themes of producing polydisciplinary projects, amplifying arts opportunities for underserved artists and communities, and sharing meaningful stories through art.
Together, Kirsten (lyrics) and Sarah (music) created the opera Girondines which has its west coast premiere coming up this month right here in Santa Clarita with Mission Opera. Girondines is an arts-as-activism feminist piece which fuses elements of music, theater, film, dance, visual art, literature, and history in a story based on six French Revolution women's timeless tragedies and triumphs. Kirsten is the director, choreographer, and one of the performers for the Mission Opera Girondines production, alongside Sarah who is pianist-conductor, music director, technical director, and production manager.
