Lecture with Cuban artist Carlos Martiel

Carlos Martiel (born 1989, Havana) lives and works in New York and Havana. He participated in the 2019 Havana Biennial, among many past exhibitions. In his performance practice, Carlos uses his body as "a battle ground" to interrogate issues of race, class, authoritarianism, Diasporic displacement, and censorship, both inside and outside of Cuba. This lecture will address how censorship affects the artist's body. There will be a Q&A after the lecture. Cuban food and light refreshments will be served.
