At CalArts, we recognize the importance of nurturing not just the artistic talents of our students, but also their overall well-being.

Our commitment to holistic student support is reflected in the wide range of recreational facilities and activities available, designed to promote physical health and offer relaxation amid the demands of academic life.

Outdoor sports

CalArts has two tennis courts and a basketball court that are open for use from 6 am-10 pm daily. Individual or team sports and other recreational activities are all sponsored by Campus Life. The Division of Student Affairs provides equipment for sports—including baseball, basketball, tennis, and croquet.

Camping equipment

The region around CalArts is rich in natural areas, including national, state, and county parks, forests, and campgrounds. Students with a valid CalArts ID may, on a first-come, first-served basis, borrow camping equipment from the Division of Student Affairs. Items available include tents, camping stoves, lanterns, camping pads, and camping chairs.

Pool

Available to all registered students, the swimming pool is located in the courtyard of Chouinard Hall. The pool is heated, as necessary, from March through November.

Weight room

Chouinard Hall maintains a weight room, including treadmills, exercise bikes, and free weights. This is available only to on-campus residential students. A $10 per year fee is charged for access and is used for maintenance of the space and equipment.
