Student Health Center
In support of the physical
and mental health needs of the student artists in our community, CalArts
has expanded Student Health Services (SHS), beginning in Fall 2019.
Located in D208, the newly renovated area provides students with easier access to care while
still allowing for privacy during visits.
An on-site nurse provides general care, such as first aid for
injuries, and treatment for minor illnesses and conferences on health
problems. In
addition, the Health Center has partnered with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) to bring two doctors on staff. The two physicians specialize in adolescent medicine and will be
on campus two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-7 p.m.
Sexual health services, including free and anonymous STI and HIV testing, birth control, and pregnancy tests, are provided to students by the Samuel Dixon Family Clinic two days a week, on Thursdays and Fridays.
All
services are currently provided to students free of charge and appointments can be made by calling 661-253-7830 or by visiting the Health Center in D208. The hours, excluding holidays and special occasions, are as follows:
Monday, Thursday, and Friday: 9am - 5pm
Tuesday and Wednesday: 11am - 7pm
In case of an emergency, please dial
911; for other urgent care needs, please check your health insurance
for the closest urgent care around. Henry Mayo, located just down the
road, is our closest hospital. Additional over-the-counter medications
will be available in the student store.
Acute health care is provided to all students, regardless of medical coverage. If it is necessary for a student to see an outside physician, they can attain a referral from the SHS department. All students are required to have an immunization record on file with the SHS department.
The health form may be mailed along with the rest of the admissions packet, or brought to the SHS department in person. If the form is misplaced, students may obtain an extra copy in SHS.
