Faculty Emeriti

Being named a faculty emeritus at CalArts is a profound honor, reflecting a legacy of exceptional contributions to our academic and artistic community. 

This recognition symbolizes a lifelong commitment to nurturing creativity, innovation, and intellectual growth in students and colleagues alike. It is a testament to the enduring impact that the faculty member has had on shaping the future of the arts and education at CalArts.

Receiving faculty emeritus status

Eligible faculty may be self-nominated, nominated by a dean or by regular/technical faculty colleagues. Nominations will be reviewed during the spring semester by Academic Council and Deans Council. Recommendations will be forwarded to the Provost. The faculty that are approved for faculty emeritus will be notified by a letter from the Provost.

Qualifications for eligibility include:

• Regular or technical faculty member
• Retiring or resigning after 15 years or more of service
• Distinguished and recognized contribution to the Institute, including but not limited to excellence in teaching and mentoring, exceptional institutional service and career achievement in their field
