The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts offers a variety of programs to support student and recent graduate musicians in their artistic and professional development.

The opportunities include a diverse range of programs, including performances on and off campus, chances to collaborate and learn from working artists and technicians, and international exchange.

Study abroad programs

The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts maintains student exchange programs with a number of schools in Europe and Asia. CalArts students interested in going on exchange should visit the Hub to read the requirements and fill out the Exchange Inquiry Form. Students must speak with the Office of International & Community Partnerships and International Student Exchanges during the fall semester to learn about the various programs available the following school year.

School of Music opportunities may include:

  • Falmouth University Academy of Music and Theater Arts in Falmouth, England
  • The Janáček Academy in Brno, Czech Republic
  • Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo
  • Rhythmic Music Conservatory (RMC) in Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, Scotland
  • Universität der Künste in Berlin

Ensembles

CalArts’ ensemble offerings provide students with a unique opportunity to engage in cross-genre collaborations, experiment with diverse musical styles, and work alongside faculty and peers. This hands-on experience is essential for developing versatile musicianship in both traditional and avant-garde contexts.
