The housing application deadline for the 2025-2026 academic year is June 1, 2025.

Fill out online application and pay housing deposit by the deadline.

  • New students: Once you pay your tuition deposit, it will take approximately five days to receive your CalArts credentials necessary for logging into your CalArts email account. You will be able to access the housing application through sso.calarts.edu and click on the widget “Symplicity - Residence.”
  • Returning students: You can access the housing application through sso.calarts.edu and click on the widget “Symplicity - Residence.”

Electronically pay your housing fee and deposit by the deadline.

Two ways to pay (links are also provided in the application itself):

  • Online payment: From your checking or savings account, or credit card (Mastercard, VISA, or Discover).
  • Bank wire: If paying by wire transfer, please be sure to check with your bank for the cost of the wire. The bank usually deducts the cost of the wire from the amount of money that you send, which in some instances may cause your payment to be short. Please reference your name and student ID number in the wire.

Immunizations: To help ensure our community stays healthy, all students are required to have immunizations on file with the Student Health office. For information on immunization requirements, please refer to Student Health Services. Students without these immunizations on file will not be allowed to move into the residence halls.

We can never guarantee housing, but our goal is always to house as many students as we are able based on safety and capacity during this time.

Priority will be given to first-time, first-year students (BFA1, MFA1, and transfer students). Students seeking disability-related housing accommodation should refer to the Disability Services page for important information.

Placement begins with filling on-campus housing options, followed by off-campus housing options. Placement in campus housing is done through a lottery system. All students who apply by the deadline will be entered into the housing lottery again, with priority going to first-time, first-year students. The results of the housing lottery will be shared through CalArts email in June.
