Julie Shelton is an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique (AT) and a graduate of the Alexander Technique Institute of Los Angeles (ATI LA). In addition to her private practice, Julie teaches AT at the Baron Brown Studio in Santa Monica, has been a guest teacher at acting studios and performance schools, and greatly enjoys teaching the technique to the talented students at CalArts.

Julie grew up in the Midwest where she studied dance and acting for fifteen years. Julie was introduced to the AT through an LA casting director and became a student of the technique. As a student, Julie experienced firsthand the benefits of the technique in reducing anxiety, eliminating tension and muscular pain, and improving posture, the mind/body relationship, and breathing. This led to Julie’s desire to help improve people’s lives with the technique, and she enrolled in ATI-LA’s three year program to become an AT teacher.

Julie continues to study the technique. She attended the Alexander International Congress in Limerick, Ireland and the International Congress in Chicago, Illinois as well as attending AT educational conferences throughout the United States.

Julie is currently a member of SAG/AFTRA and Woman In Film Organization. She also enjoys volunteering her time to the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.  Julie is a long-time Board Member of The Holmby Park Advisory Board in Westwood, California.

In 2024, one of Julie’s self care lessons was featured in “The Lifestyle Medicine Toolbox,” a book of mind-body approaches for health promotion directed towards health care professionals, written by Z. Altug.
