JP Jones is a Los Angeles based filmmaker and projectionist whose work moves at the intersection of image, community, and media history. An MFA graduate in Film Directing from CalArts and the Interim Film Services Manager for the Institute, JP oversees the Bijou Theater’s exhibition program, manages archival and digital projection workflows, and supports students and visiting artists through screenings, festivals, and special programs.

As a projectionist and A/V specialist, JP has worked with a range of film organizations and artist-run spaces across the country, including collaborations on a multi-state tour with artist Shu Lea Cheang that deepened his commitment to the politics and ecology of moving-image culture.

Before shifting into cinema, JP performed with leading Bay Area vocal ensembles, bringing a storyteller’s sensibility and musicality into his filmmaking practice. His current projects explore identity, embodiment, and the cultural geographies of analog media.
