Emi Tamura received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Piano Performance from San Francisco State University under the tutelage of Roger Woodward, and studied chamber music with the Alexander String Quartet.

She studied solo and collaborative contemporary piano performance with Vicki Ray, and composition with Ulrich Krieger and received her Master of Fine Arts from CalArts, where she currently teaches ear-training and musicianship. 

She has over thirteen years of teaching experience and currently resides in Los Angeles where she continues to perform, teach, accompany, and collaborate with other musicians and artists. In addition to being a classical and contemporary pianist, she also plays in several local punk bands.
