Ashley Turner is an Institute Academic Advisor at CalArts, working primarily with students from the Schools of Critical Studies, Film/Video, and Music. In this role, she’s dedicated to guiding students through their academic and artistic pathways, ensuring their persistence and successful degree completion. Ashley provides comprehensive advising on degree requirements and institute policies, working closely with students, mentors, and school administrators to monitor progress and offer support when needed.

Students are encouraged to reach out at any time! You can easily book an academic advising session by visiting Ashley’s Calendar (click link) and selecting a date and time that works best with your schedule. She is available for in-person and virtual sessions.

Ashley’s #1 tip to all students: if you have a question or are unsure about anything, just ask! Don’t wait. The more information you have, the better equipped you’ll be to accomplish your goals and have a successful time at CalArts pursuing your degree.

Ashley’s dedication to student success is deeply rooted in her extensive background in music and the arts. Her lifelong involvement in music and the arts culminated in a Masters of Music from the University of Southern California. Her diverse experience includes leading an Admissions and Student Services team at California College of Music, co-founding a family business, Turner Music & Cinema, and building a non-profit pre-professional orchestra in Santa Clarita Valley. This rich history in arts and higher education fuels her passion for assisting young artists in navigating collegiate study and finding fulfillment on their artistic journeys.

When she’s not at her desk, you can find Ashley performing as the Principal Flutist for the Santa Clarita Symphony Orchestra, creating content for Exploration Music Project—a visual and aural journey featuring diverse music in natural settings—or snuggling with her three adorable kittens: Kilo, Lana, and Millie.
