Anthony McCann was born and raised in the Hudson Valley. He is the author of five collections of poetry including I am the dead, who, you take care of me (Wave Books, 2023) and Thing Music (Wave Books, 2014). His non-fiction book Shadowlands: Fear and Freedom at the Oregon Standoff (Bloomsbury, 2019) on the 2016 armed right-wing occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, was a finalist for the California Book Award and the Reading the West Book Award.

Anthony’s teaching, writing and research interests tend to generally coalesce around the ecological intersections of religious, political, literary and scientific practice, and modes of anarchist thought and practice as they pertain to art-making, politics and religion. Specific content and field areas of interest, research and writing include 19th, 20th and 21st century North American poetry; political theology; political ecology; Native American history; ecological, political and cultural history of the North American West and of the North American Eastern woodlands; Latin American literature, culture and history, and cultural anthropology. He lives with his family in the Mojave Desert.
