Abigail Whitman (they/them) is an LA-based performer-composer, improviser and Voice/Alexander Technique teacher,
with a specialization in classical and experimental vocal techniques. Their vocal practice centers around the philosophy
that a deeper understanding and awareness of the relationship between mind and body is integral to the act of vocalizing.

Abigail’s teaching practice reflects this; students are encouraged to experiment and explore beyond the parameters of traditional vocalizing in a safe and supportive manner. Because much of Abigail’s vocal training has varied widely among operatic, musical theater, and experimental techniques, they have become known for their versatility in both genre and voice. They frequently showcase this versatility while premiering new works in both a soloistic and choral setting. Beyond their performance practice, Abigail is also a composer and seasoned improvisor. Their written works explore collaborative storytelling through the use of improvisatory notation that creates space for performer agency, and often center on themes of activism, queerness, and gender identity. Abigail is also the vocalist in the improvisational duo Mystic Elevator, alongside CalArts alum Jack Herscowitz (electronics).
