Academic Support
The Writing Center is an hybrid service where students can meet one-on-one with trained writing tutors to work on any writing-related task they face—from academic papers to artist statements, grant applications to resumes.
Students can make an appointment to meet with a tutor either in-person or virtually. Tutors will assist students as they develop the skills of self-editing, organization, idea development, clarity and concision, and critical thinking. It is recommended that students plan to see a tutor more than once in the process of completing an assignment in order to receive the most comprehensive benefit.

The Writing Center also hosts biweekly ELL / language support workshops for MFA students, covering a range of English language-related skills and strategies. Please email Kini Sosa, the Writing Center Fellow, at ksosa@calarts.edu or Collin Bailey Jonkman, our ELL Fellow, at cjonkman@calarts.edu
The Writing Center typically hires new tutors at the start of each semester, but accepts applications on a rolling basis. Email writingcenter@calarts.edu to request an application.
