Purpose
To establish a standardized process for requesting, approving, and managing visitors on the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) campus in order to maintain safety, security, and accountability.
General Visitors
- To attend a campus tour or information session, please sign up with the Office of Admissions. By appointment only.
- To attend a ticketed performance or event, please show your tickets or receipt at the gate.
- To visit the Library, please contact libcirc@calarts.edu.
- For alumni, please contact alumni@calarts.edu. (Alumni visiting for personal reasons should contact Alumni Relations; alumni visiting as guests of a specific department should follow the Invited Visitor process below.)
Invited Visitors
For current students, faculty, or staff to welcome a visitor, contractor, or vendor to campus, a drive-on request must be submitted to Campus Safety in advance. Requests must be emailed to campussafety@calarts.edu.
Requests should include, at minimum:
- Visitor name(s)
- Date and time of visit
- Purpose of visit
- Host name and department
- Areas/spaces requested for access as needed
Access to Specific Rooms or Controlled Spaces
If a visitor requires access to any specific room, studio, lab, performance venue, or restricted campus space, approval must be obtained from the school that controls the space prior to the visit.
Example: Requests for access to music practice rooms must be approved by The Herb Alpert School of Music before access will be granted.
Campus Safety will not authorize access to controlled spaces without documented approval from the appropriate school.
Escort Requirement
All visitors must be escorted by their host while accessing restricted spaces, i.e. any area behind a locked or badge-access door. Hosts are responsible for ensuring they only access approved areas.
Overnight Guests in On-Campus Housing
- Roommates and suite-mates must agree in advance.
- The guest must be registered with the Housing Office (forms are available in the Housing office).
- There is a limit per student of one guest per semester for a maximum of three days/two nights.
- Guest must be with student at all times in restricted spaces like the dorms. For complete information on the procedures to follow, refer to the Housing Office.
Compliance
Failure to follow these procedures may result in significant delays, additional review by Campus Safety or campus administration, or future denial of visitor access.
