Thomas E. Rothman is chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group. In that role, Rothman oversees all of the motion picture activities worldwide for Columbia Pictures, Tristar, Screen Gems, and Sony Pictures Classics.

 Previously, he founded Fox Searchlight Pictures and then served as chairman of 20th Century Fox for over a decade. Rothman’s track record of more than 30 years in the film business includes the two highest-grossing films in cinematic history, Titanic and Avatar; more than $50 billion in world- wide box office; more than 150 Academy Award nominations; and five Best Picture Oscars. He serves on the boards of The Priceline Group, the Sundance Institute, CalArts, The American Film Institute, and Brown University (emeritus).

Rothman was appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the United States Senate to the National Council on the Arts. He is Brown ‘76, Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude, with honors in English and American literature.
