Prior to joining the CalArts community, Eva served as the inaugural director for the California Institute of Technology (Caltech)’s Center for Diversity and Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship coordinator from 2008 to 2016, the Minority Education Initiatives manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) from 2000 to 2007, a high school science teacher from 1996 to 1999, and a synthetic chemist at JPL from 1988 to 1996.

Her research interests are motivated by the question of “DEIA in action” as it pertains to representation and creating spaces for plural perspectives and approaches as a means of expanding curricular foci, advancing learning outcomes and retention. 

A native of Pasadena, California, Eva holds a bachelor’s of science in chemistry from Xavier University of Louisiana, a masters of science in organic chemistry from Tuskegee University, and a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California. Eva is a member of and represents CalArts with the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE), Southern California Chapter of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (SCADOHE), Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), and Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE). She is the past vice president of the Volunteer Docent Council at the California African American Museum, a member of the Foothill Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Inc., and most importantly, a mom.
