Currently serving as vice president for Student Affairs at CalArts, Anthony Garrison-Engbrecht (he/him) embodies a steadfast commitment to higher education administration and is dedicated to cultivating holistic student experiences that empower individuals to achieve their utmost potential.

Previously, Anthony served as vice president of Student Life and Title IX coordinator at Saint Mary’s College of California. He was also assistant vice chancellor, senior advisor, and chief of staff at University of California, Merced. Prior to that, during his tenure at University of California, Berkeley, he served as assistant dean of students and director of the LEAD Center, overseeing student activities. At Loyola Marymount University, he was director of leadership programs and founding director of LGBT Student Services.

Anthony has actively contributed to various educational and advocacy initiatives. He chaired the Mentoring and Networking Committee for the Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators and represented Southern California in the American Education Research Association. His commitment to LGBT+ rights is evident through his role as Southwest Regional Representative for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals and his service on the boards of the Catholic Association for Lesbian and Gay Ministry and the US-El Salvador Sister City Initiative.

Anthony serves on the Board of Community Violence Solutions and remains engaged with Loyola Marymount University as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. His involvement in political advocacy includes serving on the Victory Fund Campaign Board, which supports the election of openly LGBTQ+ leaders. Anthony also participates in the NAPSA Equity Leadership Academy, fostering discussions on equity in higher education.

Appointed by Governor Newsom in July 2022, Anthony contributes to the California State Lottery Commission and serves as chair, dedicated to enhancing supplemental funding for public schools and colleges across California. His academic journey includes degrees in Sociology, Educational Psychology, and Theological Studies, complemented by graduate studies focusing on the intersection of culture, curriculum, and rural education access.
