Allan Chen

As vice president for institute technology and chief technology officer, Allan (he/him) is responsible for the strategic planning and technology portfolio for the Institute. This includes central, administrative IT, infrastructure, and support services. He also coordinates with the technology staff in the Institute’s six schools to create a cohesive plan for technology moving into the future.

He is committed to realizing the promise of technology’s impact on teaching, learning, and productivity.

Prior to CalArts, Allan has held leadership roles at California State University, Northridge; Muhlenberg College; and Menlo College. He also cut his teeth at Stanford and Santa Clara Universities in a variety of roles.

He has been a member of the EDUCAUSE Board of Directors since 2021 and is engaged with the larger higher education technology community.

Allan has a BA in history from Stanford University and an MBA from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University.

Originally from New Jersey, Allan now firmly considers himself a Californian. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, and photography.
