The MFA in Collaborative Keyboard, a specialization within the Instrumental Arts program, prepares advanced students for careers in a wide variety of collaborative keyboard disciplines.

Master’s degree candidates in this course of study concentrate on multiple aspects of collaborative performance, including work in vocal and instrumental chamber music, conducted ensembles, and opera, while also refining repertoire knowledge and language facility, including foreign language diction.

Possible ensemble work may include participation in chamber music, Baroque ensemble, and collaboration with the principal conducted faculty-student group, the Ensemble at CalArts. Collaborative Keyboard candidates are also encouraged to explore studies in harpsichord, jazz, improvisation, interactive computer technology, and pedagogy.
