Information & Responsibilities
Under the direction of the temporary Assistant Director, Campus Maintenance, the Groundskeeper II position performs a variety of grounds maintenance duties necessary for the upkeep of the Institute.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plant and maintain turf, flowers, ground covers; prunes trees and shrubs.
- Remove debris from parking lots, stairs, patios, walkways and maintain hard surfaces.
- Assist in the maintenance of parking lots including asphalt, concrete, signs and painting.
- Mix and apply fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides. Assist with general pest control.
- Participates in the collection of hazardous material for short term storage and disposal.
- Operate and perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment and tools required.
- Operates, adjust and performs maintenance repairs to sprinkler systems and all connected plumbing.
- Available for call-in emergencies and accept any assignment within Facilities as needed. Some weekend work required to accommodate special events or project needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate and maintain grounds equipment.
- Able to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Ability to move heavy items and to push heavy manually or using special equipment.
- Willing and able to be test fit for respirator and pass a pulmonary function test
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Upon offer of employment, must pass a background check and pass a physical examination.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of grounds equipment, tools and procedures of grounds gardening care.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of fertilizer, insecticides and herbicides used in grounds gardening.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- 2+ years Groundskeeper experience.
- Must have a valid California driver license. Employment is subject to driving record meeting the standards of the CalArts insurance carrier.
