Valencia, CA, January 8—California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) is pleased to announce the spring 2013 events of The Wild Beast Concert Series hosted by the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts.  In April, two free concerts will feature world-class guest performers, faculty, alumni and students representing the Institute’s acclaimed Jazz and World Music Programs. On April 13, the incendiary sounds of the CalArts Jazz Big Band will rock the Wild Beast. A night of African Dancing and Drumming on April 27 will highlight one of the most exciting programs of CalArts’ annual World Music Festival. A complete calendar listing is at end of this release.
The Herb Alpert School of Music  at CalArts offers rigorous training in an unrivaled variety of musical styles and cultures—and The Wild Beast Concert Series offers audiences the opportunity to experience the Institute’s vibrant musical culture.

Designed by Hodgetts + Fung, The Wild Beast music pavilion has been dubbed a “mini Hollywood Bowl” for its delightful outdoor amphitheater setting. With open lawn seating, families are welcome and picnics encouraged at Valencia’s most intimate concert venue. A half hour north of downtown Los Angeles, CalArts is located  just off the McBean Parkway exit of Interstate Highway 5 in Valencia, California.

What Visitors to the Wild Beast Concert Series Should Know:
Open lawn seating in the S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard: Bench seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Family-friendly: The environment and content of The Wild Beast Concert Series is safe and appropriate for family enjoyment.
Picnics are welcome: The lawn of The Wild Beast Music Pavilion is a perfect place for a picnic. Come an hour early and grab that prime spot on the lawn. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Please leave the alcohol at home. Open containers are not allowed on the CalArts campus. Dress warmly: Each concert lasts approximately 90 minutes and the evening air may get chilly.
