The CalArts Sound Collection supports the curricular needs of the Herb Alpert School of Music as well as the Institute as a whole. With a focus on contemporary music, the collection contains 9,100 LPs, 8,000 CDs and over 200,000 tracks of streamed music available through our music databases  American Song, the British Library of Archival Sound Recordings, Classical Music Library, Contemporary World Music, DRAM, Global Music Archive, Jazz Music Library, Naxos Music Library and Smithsonian Global Sound. The library provides LP and CD players, computers and headphones for music listening use.
The CalArts Library also holds recordings of CalArts faculty and student recitals, faculty master classes, and performances by School of Music ensembles from 1973 to the present. These recordings do not circulate and are located behind the circulation desk.
