Design Program Students in Final Round of the INDEX:| AIGA Aspen Design Challenge
Members of the CalArts team that created Rethink Your Green are among seven groups of finalists participating in the final round of the INDEX:| AIGA Aspen Design Challenge in Copenhagen, Denmark. Rethink Your Green is a print and web campaign developed to build public awareness about the impact of traditional grass lawns and landscaping water consumption in the Los Angeles region. The project originated in Mutant Design—an ongoing class taught in CalArts Design Program by Louise Sandhaus.
On Wednesday, August 26, one team will be awarded the INDEX: | AIGA Aspen Design Challenge Prize, of $10,000 to implement the project.
Design program students Manuel Garcia, Michelle Park and Maece Seirafi-Najar are representing the group in Copenhagen. The Rethink Your Green team also includes Eileen Hsu, Pouya Jahanshahi and Masato Nakada with Louise Sandhaus as faculty advisor.
Rethink Your Green was selected from among 450 international entries in the “Designing Water’s Future” challenge. In Copenhagen, the team will meet with socially conscious entrepreneurs, business leaders and foundations for a three-day collaborative workshop to search for sustainable economic and logistical support.
Organized by AIGA, the professional association for design, and INDEX, a global nonprofit design network, this major international competition called on creative thinkers to come up with creative solutions to address the global water crisis.
