Frequently Asked Questions about CalArts Graduation

CalArts graduation ceremonies generally are as colorful and as ebullient as you can imagine them to be. Here's a list of FAQs to help prepare for the big day. 


Tickets are NOT required to attend. Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the seats have been filled there is lawn seating. It is permissible to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Commemorative Graduation blankets will also be available for purchase.

Yes. There will be food available for purchase in graduation courtyard during the ceremony. Please note, purchases at the graduation courtyard are typically cash only. You are also welcome to bring outside foods.

There ceremony is approximately three hours long.

Expect the unexpected. The ceremony is very informal, as is CalArts. There are no robes, gowns or hats and takes place outside. Each school within the Institute will have their respected deans and/or faculty introduce the students within that school, and within each program in alphabetical order.
