How will we access campus?
- The campus will maintain 24/7 access
- Wear your CalArts ID at all times
- All visitors must be vaccinated or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival, sign into our visitor management system, and wear a visitor badge at all times.
What are the primary safety protocols we will be asked to adhere to?
- Do not come to campus if you have symptoms
- Wear your CalArts ID at all times
- Practice mindful distancing and physical contact
- Wash hands regularly while on campus
What will the Institute do if students, staff, or faculty do not comply with the safety protocols?
- Compliance issues can be reported using the LiveSafe app
- Non-compliance among students will be handled by Community Standards in the President’s Office
- Non-compliance among staff and faculty will be handled by Human Resources
Will the Institute provide testing on campus?
- Rapid testing will be made available on campus three times per week
- Testing will also be provided by a 3rd party and occur under the following circumstances:
- Anyone with a medical or religious exemption from being vaccinated will be required to be tested once a week (twice a week during performances)
- Anyone exposed to COVID on or off campus will be required to be tested
What do we do if we are exposed to the virus?
- If a student is exposed, meaning close contact, they are to report it on the LiveSafe app and a member of Covid Compliance will be in contact with the exposed person for further information. Please quarantine and monitor your health for 10 days, while wearing a medical grade mask both indoors and outdoors for those 10 days.
What will the Institute do if someone tests positive?
- Anyone in the community testing positive for COVID must report this using the LiveSafe app and will need to isolate
- We will continue to notify campus of all positive cases
- CalArts conducts contact tracing through covidcompliance@calarts.edu.
- If you are identified as a person who may have had close contact with someone COVID positive, you will be contacted and asked to take a COVID test
Are we still required to maintain distance in the classroom?
- There is no longer a strict distancing requirement, but we ask everyone to be mindful that distancing is a known way of limiting possible exposure.
- Classrooms should spread out as much as possible, but can be filled to capacity in some cases

Can we be assured of proper ventilation in all buildings?
- The air conditioner has been updated and the building is well ventilated
- MERV14 filters have been added and will be changed out twice a year
- We encourage everyone to maximize airflow whenever possible (such keeping the door open)
